Welcome to St Piran Class
Hello there! We are Mrs Laity and Mrs Green and we will be your child’s class teachers. We hope to make the transition from Reception Class into Year 1 as seamless as possible and make
you and your child feel very welcome as you begin the first year of Keystage 1 together.
Each term our learning will be based upon a new topic and you will receive plenty of information about these as we progress through the year.
Here is some other information:
READING
Your child will be heard read from their reading book once a week by a member of the team. During this session they will have their reading book changed. .
In addition, reading is taught to the whole class every day and we will invite your child to read out loud during this session so I can continually monitor their progress.
PHONICS
We practise and learn new letters and sounds every day too! Phonics are integral to reading and writing progress. It is a very important part of our learning in Year 1 and that’s why your child will be assessed in June, along with every other Year 1 child nationally, to ensure they are making good progress.
HOME LEARNING
Children will bring their ‘Home Learning Book’ home every Friday. Please aim to complete the activity inside together and return to school by the following Wednesday. This gives us time to mark your child’s book and stick in something new. From January, your child will have spellings to practise at home too.
PE
We have 2 PE lessons a week – Monday and Thursday. Your child will need a white t-shirt, black shorts and trainers or black plimsolls. They keep these clothes in a PE bag that stays on their peg at school. PLEASE ENSURE EVERY ITEM IS CLEARLY NAMED.
WATER BOTTLE – Children are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school every day.
SNACKS – Fresh fruit is provided every morning free of charge.
