Year 6

Welcome to Davy Class Y6

Mr J McGowan
(Year 6)

Hello and welcome to Year 6.  We have a very challenging but very exciting year ahead of us, with many things to look forward to.  Year 6 is extremely hard work, with lots of high expectations however we also have lots of fun which will make it one of the most memorable years at Perranporth Primary.

Home learning
Maths

A maths homework task, at your child’s level, will be set on Monday and pupils may bring it in for extra help, on Wednesday lunch time. Please feel free to jot any concerns you have on the homework page.

Children also need to know their times tables and related division facts up to 12×12, plus number bonds to 1000.

Literacy

Your child will also get weekly homework on spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG). They will be given either punctuation or grammar based activities which will also be given out on Monday and collected in on Friday. If your child requires any assistance with this, they can attend homework club on Wednesday lunchtime.

Reading

Your child will be given a reading diary to bring home. They are expected to read for at least 5 times a week, for a 20 minute slot, and record neatly in their Reading Record. In addition to this, children need to record comments on what they have read. This too will be collected in on Fridays for marking.

General Reminders…

  • Please ensure kit is organised for the week as we often have additional sporting events throughout the week. Labelled black shorts, white shirt, trainers and tracksuit as we try to get out even if the weather is poor! Our class PE sessions are on Monday and Thursday.
  • Fresh fruit is available daily for 30p per item from the key stage 2 fruit stall which year 6 are responsible for running and ordering for.
